A Miami Beach condo in the prestigious condo-hotel The W located in Miami Beach, Florida (South Beach) at: 2201 Collins Avenue Miami Beach, Florida 33139 was Dame Zaha Hadid’s last known address before passing away on the saddest Miami day of March 31st, 2016. This stunning apartment owned by the late Diva of the world of Architecture and now legend. Is a mausoleum of her exquisite taste.
This apartment is as impressive as she was. She is to date the only woman in history to receive the honorable distinction the coveted Pritzker Architecture Prize. Talented ass he was, of course it stands to reason that she designed a masterpiece. The two bedroom and two bath corner unit has the futuristic twist Hadid was well known for. She was one of those devoted artists with the courage of artistic integrity. She never compromised her vision nor settled for any revisions of her work just to land a job. She was a force to be reckoned with. Someone who fought from the many constraints of being born a woman, in a primarily Muslim country where women are not encouraged to pursue a career nor work outside the home for that matter. She was born in Baghdad, Iraq.
Hadid was a forward-thinker and a pioneer in the field architect and design. She concocted seemingly impossible ideas of architectural designs and made it possible. Her apartment on the ocean is reminiscent of that forward-thinking gal that lived in her own galaxy. Her apartment is evidence of a sense of style that was unique and exquisite. Granted, much like her apartments interior design, her architectural designs and vision were not easily accepted and certainly they were never called easy to build, practical or cost effective. However, her striking interior design ideas in her home can be best described as stark, modern, art-decor nouveau.
Her condo was stunningly designed with stark, sleek and edgy design characteristics, and so it lacked in whimsy, color and in cozy. Her artistic signature was evident in her condo the living room had the look of a chic luxury residential condominium reception lobby. It was certainly a testament to Hadid’s sophisticated taste in interior design but doesn’t seem to have the comfortable elements of home. Sleek, Uber -contemporary, with noticeable slight nods, to interior designs of the 60’s, 70’s and even the 80’s was fascinating to see a modern design with a blend of the three possibly clashing decades of styles, decor and design executed smoothly. Only Hadid could bring back and blend well those very different design eras and turn it in to a fresh, new and exciting design. This home was certainly designed to showcase her talent.
Her home is a shrine to her talented vision and a designer’s dream home created by the famous, unforgettable legend Dame Zaha Hadid.
